Corn harvest is nearing completion Southeast of Storm Lake. Most operators are performing fall tillage if they have completed their corn harvest. The yields have been mostly impressive. It is not uncommon to hear farms achieving new production highs in corn. Yield reports vary based off of rainfall received but nearly all yields are better than expected, no matter where you are.
Fall fertilizer application is going on in full force Southeast of Storm Lake with the hope of getting much of that work done before the weather changes to more winter like conditions. Once the ground freezes, liquid manure and NH3 applications generally come a halt.
Looking at the upcoming 10 day forecast, temperatures are expected to dip down into the 20s with high chances of precipitation. That pattern is expected to give way to warmer temperatures by middle of next week. We expect the remaining corn harvest to be mostly completed before months end.
