Soybean harvest is 99% complete and corn is moving along rapidly. A few farmers are finished and have started fall tillage in preparation for 2018 planting. Anhydrous Ammonia applications will likely begin this week.

Corn harvest is over 50% complete southeast of Storm Lake. Yields are better than expected but lower than 2016’s record. Most farms are 10-20% below last fall, which puts yields close to 10 year averages.

The corn market is struggling to move as large supply is being met with large demand. Soybeans are beginning to see a small rally as traders begin to worry about South American planting weather.

The picture below shows a field of corn that is being harvested with two different hybrids planted next to each other.

This is my youngest daughter learning how to “drive” a tractor during harvest last weekend.
