Counties of: Calhoun, Webster, Hamilton, Carroll, Greene, Boone, Audubon, Guthrie, Dallas
The weather over the last month has been beneficial for crop development. Average temperatures generally flowed within normal ranges. The total amount of rain received since August 1st has been below average, but the rains received were timely and well received. The most recent US drought monitor show abnormally dry conditions (pre drought stage) beginning to creep into a few of counties SE of Storm Lake.
The color of soybeans has noticeably begun to change over the last week. Soybeans will quickly begin to drop their leaves and begin turning yellow soon. The earliest planted soybeans will likely be harvested in September. The color within corn fields have also begun to change, most notably where nitrogen deficiency or disease pressure has begun impacting the plants.
Looking ahead towards the 2nd week of September, weather is forecasted to be dry with daytime temperatures ranging from the mid-to upper 80s and nighttime lows dropping to the upper 50s.
