Most areas were dry last week southeast of Storm Lake, until Saturday night. This allowed soybean planting to be
completed and some corn spraying to begin.
Corn is now in a rapid growth stage that will close the window for spraying and any side-dress fertilization very
quickly. Heavy rain (2-3 inches) is predicted for mid-week, so progress will be limited to only the well drained
farms.
Soybeans are planted except for small ponded areas within fields. Early planted beans that are emerged are
looking good. Recently planted soybeans will likely emerge quickly with the warm temperatures but heavy rain
may cause problems later this week.
Grain markets have been higher the last couple sessions driven mostly by damage to the winter wheat crop in
Texas and Oklahoma. Export demand has been good in soybeans, but somewhat disappointing in corn.
