Corn planting started in earnest last Friday and is about 75% done a week later.Topsoil conditions were a little damp but with good soil tilth and good moisture f or germination.T he cold, wet weather in the  first week of May made it a little late but not late enough to have to change hybrids.

Soybeans will be in shortly.

T he weather is amazingly volatile…

A week ago Monday, May 6 there was a range of 3” To 12” snow on the ground depending on where you
were standing.

It set an all-time record f or snow fall in May f or Iowa.

On Saturday, May 11 temperatures dropped to 29°.

On Tuesday, May 14 temperatures reached 106°.

Subsoil moisture is about three quarters full.

With modest rain this summer yields should be good.
