Scattered showers last week slowed planting but some were able to get back in the fields on Friday and Saturday.
Thunderstorms on Sunday gave farmers the day off for Mother’s Day.
Very little corn is emerged southeast of Storm Lake, which may be a good thing with the cool weather forecasted
for the beginning of this week. Warmer weather will be very welcome by the weekend.
Soybean planting will resume as soon as fields dry out from the recent rains. The window to plant soybeans is
larger than corn and significant yield losses are not seen until June. Most soybeans should be planted before the
end of May.
Some severe weather was seen during the early evening hours of May 10th (Mother’s Day). Very little damage
was done to crops since most are not yet emerged.
