Excellent planting conditions greeted farmers during the week of April 22nd in which much of the corn and soybean planting thus far took place. Strong winds were also received most of those days making herbicide applications difficult. Widespread rainfall was received the following weekend with intermittent rain events thereafter. The accumulation of rainfall this week has resulted in standing water in potholes and low laying regions of many farms. Stand counts will be diminished in those areas of the farms but little to no replanting likely will be required. The fields will need 2 to 4 good drying days for planting to resume. There are chances for additional precipitation in the 10-forecast with average temperatures continuing to inch warmer.
