Warmer temperatures are finally helping crops grow after a slow start. Widespread thunderstorms moved through
the area over the weekend with some hard rain, flooding, wind, and hail. However, crop damage was not
widespread.
Most corn looks good, but some fields that started good are now looking a little uneven. This is common in cool
wet springs and typically appears when corn is transitioning from the seminal root system to the nodal root
system. Spraying corn with herbicide is the top priority right now on most farms, and the weather is making that
difficult to impossible.
Soybeans planting finally wrapped up last week. The recently planted soybeans should emerge quickly. Most
soybeans are around 4 inches. They could use some dryer weather.
