So far this spring has been very different than last year. March was much cooler this year. Some people are already worried about delayed planting especially in Minnesota and the Dakotas. The majority of the area received good amounts of snow and some rain in March. However the moisture couldn’t penetrate the frost layer, so it provided little benefit to recharging the soil. It is a good indication that the weather patterns are beginning to change. Hopefully that trend continues. The grain markets moved sharply lower in response to USDA’s March 28 stocks report which came up with 400 million more bushels of corn than was expected.
