The weather has been relatively uneventful throughout July, Which has been a relief after June. Temperatures for the month will likely be in the lowest on record, and rainfall has been below normal. Corn has made it through pollination with no stress and has started ear fill. Soybeans are beginning to set pods. Aphid levels have been quite low to date, but we keep watching for them. While it has been dry recently, the cool temperatures have kept any stress from developing in the crops. The cool, dry trend looks to continue at least through this week.
The soybean market has rebounded, seemingly on some early dry weather concerns in the western cornbelt and excellent new crop export sales. Corn has been mostly steady, with dry weather not as much of a concern. Also, corn yields are expected to reach record levels of above 170 bu/acre.
