Weather has been extremely pleasant for harvest. Highs jumping into the 80’s a few days and lows bottoming out only in the mid to low 40’s. It has been mostly sunny and many breezy days have aided in drying both corn and soybeans in the field. Many producers are finished or near completion of soybean harvest and are very pleased with yields. A lot of local farmers have said that these are the best soybean yields that they have ever had. A dry forecast for the near future should allow combines to keep running pretty consistently and allow for potentially an early finish for harvest.
The latest USDA report increased national estimated corn yield by half a bushel to 168 bu/acre, and also upped usage of the 2014 crop. This dropped corn prices slightly over the past few days. On soybeans, national yield was raised slightly to 47.2 bu/acre this was less of an increse than most expected which seems to have allowed the soybean market to jump since Friday.
