The weather has taken a turn to normal over the last two weeks, with moderate temperatures and precipitation.Crops are moving towards maturity at a rapid pace. The earliest corn is just reaching black layer (physiological maturity) this week. This corn will likely be ready to harvest by the end of the month. Soybeans are turning color in most fields, and harvest will start within two weeks in most cases.

The latest USDA report dropped national estimated corn yield slightly to 167 bu/acre, and also upped usage of the 2014 crop. This helped bump the corn price over the last few days. On soybeans, national yield was raised slightly to 47 bu/acre.
