Rainfall has not been hard to come by in August this year, with another 2-3+ inches recieved last week. In most areas the soil is saturated and drainage tile lines are running full. The forecast looks warm and dry for this week, which will be welcome. Harvest could become a challenge this fall if the wet pattern continues. Crops are moving toward maturity, and the earliest planted soybeans are just beginning to turn color. The forecast warm weather for this week will fuel the corn plants in their effort to add depth to the kernels on each ear. This will aid in producing
good test weight at harvest.
Grain markets have been affected by the turmoil in the stock and oil markets last week. A general environment of lower commodity prices and higher dollar spurred by the concerns of China’s economic slowdown are not beneficial to the grains, with soybeans being hurt worse than corn, since they are more dependent on the China Market.
