A good general rain came through last Thursday. This rain will be beneficial to the soybeans that are currently in
the middle of filling pods. Corn is ahead of normal development, with the earliest planted fields starting to dent.
The first USDA crop estimate of the year was released last Friday, and it was a big one with record yields of
175.1 bu/acre for corn and 49 bu/acre for soybeans forecast as the National average. The markets took the news
in stride and have actually moved slightly higher since. Our feeling at this time is the corn yield seems pretty high
based on what we are seeing, and hearing from other areas. The soybean yield estimate looks more believable,
based on very good growing conditions to date for that crop.
