Crops continue to progress well. Topsoil is starting to get dry again over many areas and a rain would be welcome, especially for soybeans that are in the critical pod setting and filling stage. Crop conditions are still good in most areas, as any heat we have been getting is of short duration, and then followed by cooler than normal temps.
The grain markets continue to mark time until harvest. Early national yield estimates from marketing firms are in
the range of 168 to 175 bu/acre for corn and 46 to 49 bu/acre for Soybeans. The upper end of both those
rangers would be record yields and lead to higher carryover and probably lower prices. Our first official look at
this years crop from the USDA will be this Friday.
