The crop conditions have improved in the area with two weeks of drier weather. Although, the cool conditions have not helped maturity. Corn is beginning to pollinate with most plants tasseling. Corn is also looking great on the better drained portions of the fields, especially on the farms that missed the heaviest June rains. The soybeans have improved in color, however, most are still shorter than normal. As always, August weather will be the real determining factor on how the soybeans will do.
The markets continue to work lower, with the good crop conditions over the majority of the corn belt. While we feel the downtrend is over done, it will take a return of a weather issue to reverse the trend, and that does not show up in any forecasts at this time.
