Counties of: Emmet, Palo Alto, Kossuth, Winnebago, Hancock, Humboldt, Wright, and Pocahontas
Weather:
Warm and Dry conditions continued through the last week. The short term forecast is showing a moderate chance of showers today which will be very welcomed. Crop conditions have held constant in the area thanks to very humid nights with large amounts of dew every morning, but a good 1+ inch of rainfall is needed. Most corn fields in the area are tasseling and some can be found that are fully tasseled. During this pollination period it is
advantageous to have nightime temperatures below 70 degrees. Luckily, the forecast is calling for 60’s most nights for the next 7 days. Soybeans are well into bloom, but many fields are still a ways away from covering the rows. This makes late season weed control a bit more difficult.
Grain Markets:
Forecast rains in much of the eastern grain belt last week caused downward movement in both crops with a
slight rebound of late. The rebound was due to crop conditions reported as lower quality than the week before.
Little news from South America has made the summer market largely weather based, even more than usual.
