June has been a great month for growing conditions. We have had quite a few days in the 90’s, but with good soil moisture in place there has been no stress on the crops. Warm temps have allowed the crops to surpass normal progress. The corn is rapidly growing. All herbicide spraying is done, and we are about 3 weeks from the start of pollination. The soybeans are just starting to flower. A lot of soybean herbicide is being applied this week, as the weeds are growing fast as well.
The grain markets are on the defensive. A small amount of weather premium was added in mid-June with hot weather and some dry areas developing, but general rains over the last week and a favorable forecast have taken gains back. Crop conditions Corn Belt wide are above average, and well above average in Iowa.
