We received a welcomed rain Sunday night, although some areas received excess amounts of moisture. The heaviest amounts were from Northern Buena Vista through central Palo Alto and Kossuth Counties. 3-5 inches were common in these areas. Standing water was visible in many fields with low spots. Replanting will be needed in some of these areas if the water does not recede soon. Weed control is the big push right now. Herbicide
application to corn will be in high gear this next week with the rapid growth of the corn in this phenomenal growing weather.

The grain markets continue to be uneventful, and generally moving lower. The first crop progress report of the year shows corn in good condition in most of the country, and planting progress of both corn and soybeans is at or ahead of average.
