Planting was especially rapid this year. The window of good weather from May 10th to May 24th allowed all the corn and a significant portion of the soybeans in the area to get put in the ground. We have had some moderate rain over the last 2 days that will be beneficial to emergence of soybeans, some of which were planted in drier topsoil. Most corn has emerged and plant population looks very good. An advantage of later planting is that the seed doesn’t spend much time in the ground, which is conductive to good stands. We have had cool weather over the last week, but a forecasted warm up in the near term will help the crops make good progress.
The corn market has taken out some premium as it has less worries about the crop getting planted then it did earlier in the month. Soybean prices have held together better.
