After a big jump last Monday, the grain markets have worked mostly lower since, even in the f ace of a record slow corn planting pace. T he traders at this point believe that improved moisture in much of the cornbelt benef its yield prospects more than late planting hurts them. Time will tell if this is true. Records from past years show that late planting does not automatically lead to lower yields. If this slow pace continues for another two weeks, I suspect there will be increased worries on yields.
