Another wet, cold week. We woke up to about 3 inches of snow on the ground, and temperatures in the 20′s.Hard to believe it is spring, or that a lot of our corn was planted by this time last year. Crop planting progress nationally is very slow, and some large areas of southeast Iowa and Illinois recieved very heavy rains last week, causing f looding. T he market has not become concerned yet about this slow pace, thinking instead
that rain makes grain. It will likely take another week or two of delays to cause any market reaction. Locally,we feel that corn planted by the 10th of May has full yield potential, with potential dropping slowly each day after that until about the 1st of June, when potential rapidly drops. The bright side of the wet conditions is that it has helped our soil moisture conditions. In general, the area has recieved 41/2 to 6 inches of moisture over the last 2 weeks, which will be enough to get the crop of f to a good start.
