Nathan Deters AFM

Conditions continue to be dry in most areas, although the Emmet, Palo Alto, and Kossuth County areas have picked up some rain (up to 1.5 inches) over the last week. Subsoil moisture is still adequate, but topsoil moisture is mostly short and a rain would be welcome. Temperatures through mid June were well above normal, but a cooling trend started late last week and looks to extend into next week. This should help limit the dry weather concerns. Crops for the most park look healthy but seem to have slowed up in growth with the dry topsoil. Most of the 2nd pass corn herbicide applications are done and soybean herbicide is being applied this week.

Grain Markets:
Markets moved modestly higher earlier in the month on weather concerns, but are taking the gains back this week on cooler temperatures and spotty rainfall forecasts. We hope the predictions for moisture verify, going into July short on soil moisture is not usually a recipe for a good crop.
