We hope you had a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Corn planting is done except for replanting of any drown out areas caused by excess rain two weeks ago.Replanting corn in the last week of May usually produces a below average yield but is still a better option than losing the initial inputs and letting the drown out area go to weeds.

The dry weather and warmer temperatures over Memorial Day Weekend helped the struggling corn crop show signs of improvement after going through a period of cool and wet weather right after emergence. Plants are noticeably better color than last week.

Soybean planting is mostly complete. The dry weekend allowed the last of the wet fields to be planted. Although the soybeans are being finished a couple weeks past the ideal time frame, they are really good at adjusting to the
environment. Many fields planted around May 15th emerged over the weekend and will receive the benefit of warmth and sun this week.

USDA’s first crop condition rating for the 2017 corn crop was released on Tuesday afternoon estimating 65% of the nations 2017 corn crop is “good” or “excellent”. This is the lowest initial rating for the corn crop in the last 4
years.

The corn market has been trading mostly sideways for the last two weeks while the soybean market has seen a steady decline since mid-May
